Megan's May Move a Mile a Day Challenge

I get great (in my opinion) ideas while running. In April I wanted to run 50 miles. I ended up with 50.3. Woohoo!! So today while I was on the treadmill I was thinking what would my goal be for May. I've decided that I want to move (walk, run, bike, swim, skip whatever) for one mile per day during the month of May!

If you want to join me you are more than welcome. Maybe if enough people do this with me we should get a hashtag going :)

Do you want to join my challenge?

My last race in the 30-34 age group

May 6th I turn 35. This means that I'm in a new age group for races. The 30-34 age group was competitive, but the 35-39 is just as competitive. I guess I better get speedy if I want to keep up with these ladies for the next 5 years.

May 3, 2014, I'm going to run the Run Thru The Ranch 5k. I looked at the course map and it looks like I'll be running in the field. Oh I'm not one for running in the grass, but I'm going to do it!

If you're in the area you should sign up! Check it out!

Run For It 5k Race Recap

Saturday April 19, 2014, I ran the Run For It 5k for the second year. I'll admit last year when I ran the race I didn't know much about To Write Love On Her Arms and I wasn't quite sure what "Run For It" stood for. I had a goal of 34 races last year and this one was close to my house so I signed up. It just happened during last years run that I started talking to another runner who started talking about TWLOHA.

Last years race happened the Saturday after the Boston Marathon. Before I got to the race I had intended on running for Boston. I wore my blue and yellow. It was kinda fitting because the point of the race was, What will you run for? It was a coincidence that I had already decided to run for something.

2013
Every runner out there had their own reason for running. Some were running for health, fun and even for their loved ones who were depressed or even committed suicide.

Ok back to this years race recap. My reason for running this year was health. After the last two months of me dealing with new food intolerances, I'm just so grateful that I am still able to run. I'm not as fast as I once was, but I did it!

Going into this race I really wanted to run a sub 30. I woke up about 3am and it was storming out. By the time I got up it had stopped raining and it was cool. I thought I can do a sub 30. When I arrived at the race it was cloudy and breezy, but just as we got to race time the sun came out. The course was non shaded.

I don't think I've ever looked at my Garmin so much during a race. I think ever 30 seconds I was checking my pace. My official time was 30:27. Just shy of what I wanted, but it was a minute faster than my last February 5k.

What do you run for?

Weekly Workout Recap 4/13/2014

Sunday April 13, 2014 - It was suppose to be just a core and arm day. I started walking on treadmill and after a 1/2 mile I decided to run. I was just going to start out by running 1 mile. That turned into 3. Also did arm and core!

Monday April 14, 2014 - I ran 3 miles at my target half marathon pace. I always start out running at 6.0 for the first mile, then when my timer tells me to walk I do at 4.1. Then I start running at 6.4 for 3 minutes and 4.1 for 1 minute.

Homemade Coconut Butter

Since I can't eat tree nuts, peanuts or sunflower seeds, I needed to find an alternative "butter". I've given up soy, so that rules out soy nut butter. Then someone on twitter mentioned about how she loved coconut butter. I did some research and realized it was very simple to make.

Step 1: Buy unsweetened coconut flakes

Step 2: Put the flakes into a food processor and turn it on.

I used my timer and took photos each time I stopped the food processor.

 After 10 mins:

After 16 minutes:

It took a total of 16 mins in the food processor to complete this batch. Unfortunately it doesn't make much.

I store mine in homemade yogurt jars in the cabinet.

BIG NEWS!!

For years I've been saying that I would never ever ever ever ever (you get the idea) in a million years run a marathon. Why you ask? Well 26.2 miles scares the hell out of me. HOWEVER.........

Someone said that to me during a Twitter chat while I was saying that I'd never do a marathon. Ok, he may have got me thinking that maybe I should just do it!

Photo from runDisney Facebook
SO....... I'll be running the Walt Disney World Marathon January 11, 2015!! I figured if I'm gonna run a marathon, I should do it at the Happiest Place on Earth. AND I'm only doing the marathon. I saw the Goofy medal this week and it looks so awesome, BUT I'm not going Goofy this year. Maybe next year.....

My official training will begin in June! I'll be using the Jeff Galloway training program. I used it for my second half marathon and really liked it. For now I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing. Just running 3-4 days a week. During my training I'll be running in three half marathons! I'll also be posting marathon updates on here Sundays when I post my weekly workout recap.

I'm very nervous and scared, but I guess that's normal! I think if I wasn't nervous I'd be scared! Like Kelly Clarkson says, "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger!" I may be singing that song the whole 26.2 miles!!

The only question really is... What Sparkle Athletic skirt do I wear with my Raw Threads shirt?

Seriously which skirt do I wear, leave me a comment! Red, Yellow or Turquoise.

Breakfast - This isn't my normal breakfast and it wasn't very good. Once in awhile I eat granola cereal, and this morning I didn't have milk so I used plain yogurt. I ended up having a That's It bar and ENERGYbits. Not pictured a banana.

Lunch - I had leftover taco salad with tomatillo sauce.

Snack - I had an orange, apple and mozzarella cheese.

Dinner - Grilled chicken breast with broccoli and french onion soup. Yup we had french onion soup two weeks in a row. It's so good!! Dessert was vanilla ice cream with chocolate chips.

Weekly Workout Recap 4/6/2014

Sunday April 6, 2014 - Rest Day

Monday April 7, 2014 - Walked 1 mile then ran for 40:00. Also did leg workouts. Later my husband and I were playing around with the treadmill and I tried a 7.1 mph pace for .25 miles. Oh that was hard.

Tuesday April 8, 2014 - I walked on the treadmill for 20 minutes, and to just change up things I randomly hit the incline. Then I lifted weights and stretched.

Wednesday April 9, 2014 - Speed work. I started out walking my one mile warm up. My leg started hurting, so I put some KT Tape on it and away I went. Since I've been running, I think I've done speed work 4 or 5 times. I'm not an expert, but here's what I did. I ran .25 intervals. I did 10 of them. Also I wore my Sparkle Athletic cheetah skirt to make me go faster!!

Thursday April 9, 2014 - Technically this was a no workout day. However I went to Epcot and walked around all day.

Friday April 10, 2014 - After walking around for 10 hours Thursday, my legs hurt and I was tired. However, I went to Hollywood Studios walked around for a little bit. I foamed rolled my sore legs and did some arm and core workouts!

I think Alex is practicing kitty yoga!

Saturday April 12, 2014 - I walked for 1 mile on the treadmill followed by a 4 mile run.
