Lucky Leprechaun 5k Recap

As I sat down to write this race recap, I just realized this is my first 5k of the year. And this race recap isn't going to be a normal one for me either. Yesterday I participated in the Lucky Leprechaun. I say participate because I pushed my puppy in the stroller.

This is Katie Scarlett, a 4 month old Vizsla. Once she is old enough she will join me on my runs, but for now she rides in her buggy.

Riding in the buggy isn't her favorite thing. We've only gone 1.25 miles prior to this race. I knew it would be smaller race, so I figured this would be a great first race for her.

We started all the way in the back. I started off slow because weaving through people with a stroller is impossible.

Around the 1 mile mark, she started barking. I pulled over and gave her a little drink of my water. When we finally reached the water stop at around 1.25ish I stopped again and let her drink out of the cup.

I'm not exactly sure where were on the course, but she had had it she wanted out and wanted to walk. I pulled over again got her out and we walked a little bit, then I put her back in the buggy.

Of course I got strange looks from people and I even got a wow you're a great dog mom. It's not everyday you see a dog getting pushed in a stroller around here.

Just before the 3 mile mark I got her out and we walked again. As we were walking to the finish line, I saw some spectators and I asked them if I could park my stroller with them so we could run to the finish line.

She's going to be a great running partner someday! For now she will ride in the buggy or wait with Grandma while I run a race.

Pushing a stroller is hard. Pushing a stroller with a 25 lb dog in it that moves is even harder. Not sure I'll push her much more in the stroller. I think we will just use it for the bike from now on.
